Personality is the sum total of one’s mental, spiritual and physical traits and habits that distinguish one from all others. It is the factor that determines whether one is liked or disliked by others.
In his book Today Matters John Maxwell says.
People are insecure. Give them confidence.
People want to feel special. Sincerely compliment them.
People desire a better tomorrow. Give them hope.
People need to be understood. Listen to them.
People are selfish. Speak to their needs.
People want to be associated with success. Help them win.
Hill coined the phrase Positive Mental Attitude and I don’t think it is more important anywhere than when dealing with others. We all have our own issues and don’t want or need to be brought down by negativity and complaining.
Kindness and courtesy are free. It costs you nothing to be nice to people. I hear people say “Well I’m just direct. I say what’s on my mind.” I would say that most of those folks are just plain rude.
Control your emotions. You always have a choice in how you react to any situation.
I heard that a famous psychologist was once asked if he could predict that a patient was about to have a break down what advice would he give them. His answer was to go directly out and find another person who needed help and help them. To be happy, just go make someone else happy!
Personality is a little like driving skill. We all think ours are pretty good and truth is we could all get better.
